Aspen Mays (b. 1980), originally from Charleston, South Carolina lives and works in Los Angeles, California.

POC member since 2011.

Aspen graduated with an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2009. She was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship after graduation and spent a year in Chile making work in an abandoned darkroom at the University of Chile’s Astronomical Observatory. This work forms the basis of her first solo show in New York in 2011.

Aspen’s practice is built around photographic image making and experimentation as both a methodology and a subject matter.  Her work is engaged in a conversation about the fantasy of meaning and transcendence in the ordinary and prosaic.
