Cara Phillips (b. 1974) Detroit, MI. Lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. POC member since 2009. Cara has been featured in numerous group shows in New York City and exhibited internationally. Publications include, Odjoe-Pez, Canteen, Cabinet and C Photo International. In addition to her own work, she writes and curates the online exhibition project Women in Photography. She found her way to photography after many years in the beauty industry, first as a child model and later as make-up salesperson in luxury department stores. When Cara began making pictures in her late 20's, she used her personal experience's as a starting point to explore the American cultural obsession with beauty. Her work, while firmly grounded in the documentary traditional, also uses color and form to blur the boundaries of truth and objectivity in image making.
I was happy to donate, Ultraviolet Lovers #2, 2011 to The Camera Club of New York’s benefit auction. Nov 7, 2011
